09:00 Day 1
Pick up from your accommodation in
Cape Town. We depart immediately for the short drive to Paarl and a
tour through this beautiful and very historic town. Trace the roots
of the Afrikaans language and visit the very symbolic Afrikaans Language
Monument.
We now proceed to our wine estate on
the slopes of Paarl Mountain for a relaxed master wine and cheese tasting
presented by the local estate wine connoisseur. Following this we enjoy
a light lunch in the estate restaurant and you will have the opportunity
to do some optional shopping for the delectable wines and cheeses.
Our journey now takes us to the town
of Tulbagh that suffered under a severe earth quake measuring 6.5 on
the Richter Scale in 1969. We visit the pioneer of the cold fermentation
process in the making of superior wines, the House of Krone at the Twee
Jonge Gezellin wine estate. Enjoy a cellar tour through the cellar where
250 000 odd bottles of sparkling wine are maturing and observe how every
bottle is turned by hand to ensure the correct fermentation. We
enjoy a taste of the superior wine of House of Krone and move on to
our luxury yet intimate lodge in Dorp Straat in Tulbagh. You may want
to to take an evening stroll along this historic street to see all the
great buildings of yester-year.
09:00 Day 2
After a leisurely breakfast we depart
for a drive along the Breede River Valley to the magnificent Bains Kloof
Pass that still provides a fantastic passage over the mountains and
has remained virtually unchanged since it was built in the 1850’s.
We stop at the place where the undisputed Father of our nation, Mr Nelson
Mandela took his first steps in freedom and move on to Franschhoek for
lunch and a visit to the Huguenot Monument built in honour of the French
settlers that settled and cultivated this valley in the early 1700’s.
We then cross over the mountain at
Hell’s Hoogte (Heights of Hell) to our last wine tasting at a family
owned estate that produces some incredible wines and has an even more
incredible story of forbidden love that played out between the old cellar
walls. Your tour ends at approximately 17h30 when we drop you off at
your chosen accommodation in Cape Town.
