A superb relaxing and luxurious
five day nature tour exploring the sunny South and South Western
Cape. Traverse the beautiful geographical formations of the Cape Fold
Belt mountain range and visit the most Southern tip of the African continent,
Cape Agulhas. Experience the rugged beauty of the arid Karoo where we
stay in a national monument, the village of Matjiesfontein. and end
your tour on top of Table Mountain.
Our tour starts with a historical tour of Cape Town before we enjoy
a walk through the acclaimed Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
and enjoy a sumptuous lunch in these pristine surroundings followed
by a drive around False Bay and along the beautiful Palmietberg mountain
to the village of Hermanus . This is renowned as the best land-based
whale spotting area in the world. During the months of July to November
we should see many of the Southern Right Whales wallowing in the bay
close to shore.
From Hermanus we follow the southern coastline to the Southern most
tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas that is
also known as the Cape of Needles. We enjoy lunch in Agulhas before
heading inland through an extensive agricultural region where the South
African woll industry started and wheat and sheep farming still dominate.
Our destination is the historical town of Swellendam
established in 1745 where we overnight in one of the unique lodges.
After An early start we visit the Bontebok National Park
before returning to Swellendam to explore the Old Drostdy Museum
complex and have lunch at the Old Goal. After lunch we cross the Langeberg
mountain range via Tradouws Pass and stop for tea at the quaint village
of Barrydale. After tea we proceed down Route 62 to the deciduous fruit
producing area at the town of Montague.
A leisurely start to the day with a walk around the beautiful town of
Montague and a visit to the old buildings dating back to 1750. From
Montague we drive through the beautiful Burgers Pass, Die Koo and Rooihoogte
Passes en-route to the village of Touws River for a light lunch and
on to our destination at Matjiesfontein.
The whole village of Matjiesfontein has been proclaimed as a national
monument. Enjoy afternoon tea in the historical village in true colonial
style and explore the area before you watch the glorious African sunset
while sipping your sundowners.
We now head back towards the
Cape of Good Hope and stop at the only succulent botanical garden in
Africa, the Karoo Botanical Gardens
in Worcester. We continue on to the historical town of Paarl for a cellar
tour and wine tasting at the KWV
Wine Cellar . We enjoy lunch at the cellar restaurant and then drive
to Cape Town and take the cable way to the top of Table Mountain
to enjoy the amazing views over the Cape Peninsula 1000 meters down
below. Our tour ends at your hotel where you can relax after your fantastic
experience.
